Cecilia Rodriguez, the executive director of Child Abuse Listening and Mediation (CALM) in Santa Barbara was on the program this morning as part of her organization’s efforts to raise awareness during National Child Abuse Prevention month in April. CALM was started in 1969 by a local nurse who ordered a second phone line and posted a classified ad encouraging parents in need to call for help. Today CALM has grown immensely. From 2008 to 2009 the organization served more than 1,300 clients in Santa Barbara County, providing 12,156 hours of treatment.
CALM will host a children’s storyteller fair on De La Guerra Plaza in Santa Barbara on Saturday April 24, 2010 from 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM featuring American Girl series author Valerie Tripp. Children in attendence will receive a free book.
